Georgia’s C5 visa: what remote workers should check

The 2026 C5 visa framework, the difference between visa validity and permitted stay, and the June passport-rule update.
News date: 9 June 2026. Published and checked: 10 October 2026.
Georgia added a C5 visa category in 2026, followed by procedure changes in May and June. If you plan to visit while working for an overseas business, it is worth checking whether this route fits your situation.
This overview reflects official texts checked on 10 October 2026. It is general information, not an individual immigration or tax assessment.
Who the category covers
C5 concerns people visiting Georgia for short-term tourism who also carry out activity only for a nonresident, connected with that nonresident’s activity outside Georgia. The category also covers the visitor’s spouse and minor children. It is not a general permission to take any job in Georgia. Aliens Law, Article 7.
Start with the actual arrangement: who receives your services, where their relevant operations are, and whether you plan to take Georgian clients or employment. A foreign bank payment alone does not answer these questions.
Five-year validity does not mean five years of stay
The law allows a C5 visa with five-year validity and a one-year right of stay. Those are different periods; do not turn the headline into a five-year residence promise. Check the dates and conditions on any visa issued to you. Aliens Law, Article 6(7¹).
The 7 May 2026 procedural amendment provides for C5 applications through the eVisa portal and sets a USD 300 application-review fee. A legal application route does not guarantee an approval. Resolution №184.
The June passport change
The 8 June 2026 amendment gives C5 a specific travel-document rule: the document must remain valid for at least two years from the start of the visa’s validity. Use this C5-specific rule when checking your passport, rather than assuming the general visa rule applies. Resolution №253.
Before you make travel plans
- Confirm that your work arrangement matches the category’s conditions.
- Check the current nationality eligibility, document list and C5 application availability through the official eVisa portal or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have not confirmed a complete C5 application flow for every nationality.
- Check passport validity and any family applications separately.
- Assess tax residence, income treatment and business registration separately. C5 does not itself grant Small Business Status or establish a 1% tax entitlement.
If you already operate a Georgian individual business, read our 2026 work-permit update as well. The foreign-client exception and the residence-permit question need their own assessment.
Taxocat helps with the monthly tax routine. It does not submit C5 applications or determine immigration eligibility.
